Seth focuses his practice on family law and litigation compliance. His work in family law includes all issues related to separation or divorce matters including division of assets, custody and support. Seth uses his familiarity with litigation and personal privacy matters to counsel institutional clients regarding subpoena responses, privacy and privilege protection, government investigations and other corporate litigation-related needs. Seth has also litigated many other kinds of civil matters, including contract disputes, property boundary issues and will contests. Seth has considerable trial experience before state and federal courts as well as all levels of appellate courts.
Seth is a dedicated “double Hoo” having graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in History in 2003 and a JD in 2008. Seth returned to Virginia and joined Flora Pettit in 2013 after practicing in Boston, Massachusetts in securities and business litigation. He has appeared in matters throughout Virginia and across the country in his civil practice and served as a Special Assistant District Attorney for Middlesex County in Massachusetts.
Seth is a member of the Virginia Bar Association’s Board of Governors and the Virginia State Bar’s Family Law Section Board of Governors. Seth served for six years on the 7th District Disciplinary Committee of the Virginia State Bar, and he is currently a member of the Virginia State Bar’s Clients’ Protection Fund Board. Seth also serves on the Virginia Bar Association’s Domestic Relations Section Council. Seth is an active member and former President of the Thomas Jefferson Inn of Court. Seth is active with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association for which he served two terms as Treasurer and is a member of the Pro Bono Service Committee.
Seth was inducted as a fellow to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 2025, and he is a member of the Virginia Chapter. Seth was honored with the prestigious Emerson G. Spies Award for service to the Virginia Bar Association. He has also been selected to the Virginia Business Legal Elite 2019-2026 and Virginia Super Lawyers in 2026. Seth is also very engaged in the Charlottesville community, having served on the UVA Club of Charlottesville's Board of Directors, the Smart Cville and Salvation Army of Charlottesville’s Advisory Boards, and currently acting as counsel to the Board for the Trades and Technology Education Foundation.
In his free time, Seth enjoys photography, hiking, Hi-Fi audio electronics and reading.
