Bailey Houghtaling, PhD, MSc, RDN is a Research Scientist with Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition and an Adjunct Faculty member with the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise at Virginia Tech. She uses mixed methods and implementation science approaches to inform strategies to improve population nutrition and mitigate inequities, with emphasis on the built environment. Currently, her work seeks to identify factors that influence the likelihood for the adoption, implementation, and sustainment of two large Food is Medicine initiatives across diverse contexts: 1) Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) produce prescription programs funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA), and; 2) Food as Medicine 3 (FAM3) programs funded by Feeding America and Elevance Health Foundation. Outcomes of this work is aimed at bridging research-to-practice applications of strategies that could improve the success of Food is Medicine efforts.
