Dr. Greg Barabell has joined DMAS to serve as the agency's Chief Medical Officer, reporting to Director Steve Ford. He comes to DMAS from his independent healthcare consulting work at Clear Bell Solutions, where he focused on the intersection of payment, policy, and practice at the state and national levels. Prior to that, he served as Chief Medical Officer for the largest South Carolina Medicaid Managed Care Organization.

Greg earned his bachelor’s in human biology, health, and society from Cornell University and his medical degree from SUNY Upstate. He completed his pediatric residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2010.

Outside of work, he enjoys travel, theater, live music, and spending time with his family, including his adorable mini-Bernese mountain dog, Huey. A fun fact about Greg: he never intended to leave Charleston, but the opportunity to work at DMAS and serve the Commonwealth was one he couldn't pass up.
