Razan J. Fayez was raised in North Carolina where she earned her Baccalaureate Degree from Wake Forest University in 1994, her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1998, and her Juris Doctor from UNC at Chapel Hill in 2000.

Judge Fayez began her legal career as the family law attorney at Central Virginia Legal Aid Society where she advised and represented innumerable clients in family abuse, custody, child support and divorce matters. Upon her move to Northern Virginia, she was the managing family law attorney at the well-known Tahirih Justice Center. It was there that Judge Fayez was exposed to helping immigrant women navigate the judicial system. She opened her own firm in 2011 where she focused on representing immigrants, low-income clients, and survivors of domestic violence.

Judge Fayez has been actively involved in the legal community including being a board member of the Council to End Domestic Violence and currently serves on the advisory board for the Fairfax County Supervised Visitation and Exchange Center.

Judge Fayez was a Guardian ad litem since 2000 and was particularly interested in protecting children from the unintended consequences of their parents’ poor communication. She has been involved in developing trainings for Guardians ad litem so they can better serve the children in Fairfax County. She has continued to be actively involved in strategic planning and collaboration between the Fairfax Court systems and the Stronger Together Supervised Visitation and Exchange Program to ensure families and children experience the best outcomes possible.

Judge Fayez was appointed as a Judge on the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on February 1, 2024. She is both the first Arab-American and the first Muslim Judge in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
