Amber Porón is the Outreach and Education Coordinator/Navigator/Language Access Specialist for Enroll Virginia (a part of Healthy Communities with the Virginia Poverty Law Center). She has worked with Enroll Virginia for the past eleven years and has actively worked with the Hispanic outreach since the first open enrollment. Amber holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pyschology (with a minor in Spanish), a Master of Education degree from Liberty University, is certified as a health care navigator and also as a Spanish medical interpreter. As the lead Hispanic Navigator for Enroll VA, she develops statewide strategies to reach Hispanic communities, small business owners and individuals, and works with federal, state, and local partners. Amber also translates education materials and other communications; assists with Hispanic community trainings; and works with Spanish media (radio/TV). As a language access specialist, Amber also established Virginia Language Connections to help connect Virginians to quality health care through language interpretation. She continues to work on this initiative and expand it into legal language access.
