Virgil Phillips Jr. is the Program Manager within the department of Enhanced Care Management at VCU Health. Within his role at VCU Health, he manages various programs and projects that all focus on ensuring that patients at VCU Health are provided the best health care possible. Virgil has been a big proponent in focusing on social determinants of health, through the implementation of screening and navigation throughout the health system. Virgil works in collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University Health Science undergraduate students and takes pride in being able to mentor and guide our upcoming generation of healthcare professionals. Virgil continues to work towards overcoming barriers to ensure that patients from all backgrounds have access to healthcare and resources within the community.
Virgil has served in several roles before serving as the Program Manager. He began his career at VCU Health in 2016 as a Community Health Worker connecting patients to community resources in the Emergency Room. Throughout his career at VCU Health, Virgil has been involved in screening on the patient-facing level, which has allowed him to see the benefit and impact of addressing social determinants of health.
Virgil received his Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from James Madison University in 2016, his Master of Business Administration from Capella University in 2019 and a PhD in Higher Education Administration with a specialization in Educational Leadership at Liberty University in 2024. Virgil is married to Amouri Phillips and has a daughter Alaya (1).
