John Muraca is the Executive Director of Acute Services for the UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Virginia. UnitedHealthcare’s community plans proudly serve nearly 6 million Medicaid members in 31 states, plus Washington D.C. UnitedHealthcare is a division of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) which is a diversified health and well-being company with a mission to help people live healthier lives and help make the health system work better for everyone.
Most recently, John served as the Chief Executive Officer of INTotal Health, a Virginia Medicaid managed care plan owned by the Inova Health System. INTotal Health served over 60,000 members in the TANF, SSI, and CHIP Medicaid programs.
Prior to his work at INTotal, John was the General Manger for Aetna (Coventry) Medicaid operations in Virginia and West Virginia. During his time there, he led two geographic expansions in Virginia and finalized the geographic expansion in West Virginia.
John has over 25 years in the health care industry working for both provider groups and insurance carriers. He has a real passion for working within the health care system to deliver the triple aim – improving the patient experience, improving population health, and reducing per capita costs of health care. He has spent the last four years focusing on the improved identification and mitigation of Health-Related Social Needs and the integration of Social and Medical supports to improve the health outcomes of Medicaid recipients.
John received both his Bachelor of Arts (Economics) and MBA from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
John and his wife currently reside in Richmond, VA.
