Session Summary:

The plenary conversation promises a dynamic exploration of neighbor-centric approaches to food is medicine initiatives. Panelists will delve into the crucial link between food support and medical care. They'll challenge assumptions about accessing healthy food, discuss ways to center patients and neighbors in these efforts, and tackle complex issues like meaningful engagement, power dynamics, trauma-informed care, and long-term sustainability.

Objectives:

  • Explore the importance and impact of centering the lived experience in designing food access interventions.
  • Discuss strategies for effectively incorporating the voices and perspectives of individuals who have directly experienced nutrition insecurity into organizational decision-making processes.
  • Identify barriers and challenges to meaningful inclusion and participation of those with lived experience, and brainstorm actionable solutions.
  • Inspire attendees to commit to concrete actions that enhance the inclusion of lived experience perspectives within their respective organizations and initiatives
